Raspberry leaf is possibly best known as a supportive treatment for childbirth, as it tones and strengthens the womb, and is generally taken as a (pleasant tasting) tea for about 8 weeks before birth. It is also good for relieving period pain, and is a uterine relaxant and tonic.
The leaves of the raspberry are cleansing and astringent, so make an effective sore throat remedy, and an infusion of the leaves can be used as a gargle. Raspberry vinegar was once a popular folk remedy for coughs. The leaves also help stimulate digestion, and encourage urination.
The fruit is a laxative - making it effective at helping clear toxins out of the digestive system - and is a traditional cooling remedy for cystitis and fevers, and is also recommended for rheumatic pains.
