Each Year
by Jarmara Black

Each year that passes and each age that goes
Leaves its’ mark upon the mind.
Joy and pain, laughter and tears, love and loss
All leaves there ghosts and footprints
In our minds.

Memories cruel and kind
Are chalked up on the walls
Off the corridors deep within our minds
Some corridors are light and airy and frequently revisited
So full off love and pleasantness are they.
But then there are the dark and wished forgotten ones
With dark and shadowy corners and suffocating fetid air,
We shutter the windows draw the curtains and Barr the door
We turn our backs and pretend its not there
