Ripples
work for you as well as being worked by you.
People always talk about the kindness of strangers,
but I know about it first-hand.
Recently I stayed with friends in the little
village of Wells Next the Sea in Norfolk. Friday
night, and again at breakfast on Saturday, Bob
checked the bus timetable with me. Surprisingly,
there were only two buses to take me to the
train in Kings Lynn on a Saturday the
one at 11:05am and another around 4pm. I settled
on the early one.
I got to the little green where the buses stop
at about 10:50am and checked the posted timetable.
Yup. 11:05. I waited, checked my watch
its now 11:05. I waited. 11:15. I waited.
11:20 Still waiting. Now I was worrying. Only
had ten minutes to make the connection at Fakenham,
and that window was now gone!
Theres another bus line that goes through
Wells, but they go to Norwich, so I walked the
20 feet to that bus stop to read their timetable.
While I was doing that, a middle-aged couple
stopped at the bench where I had been to rearrange
their shopping, and looked worriedly at my bags.
I explained they were mine and told them about
my lost bus.
The man who was quite large, sat down and opened
a 2-litre bottle of red pop and started drinking
it. My first impression was low class! While
we were talking, a lady who had been sitting
on the next bench (it was warm and sunny now
that I was going home), came over and said the
bus was permanently off, as were several others.
I put on my Best Bright Face, and said I was
in no big hurry and sooner or later Id
get home. The big couple gathered up their stuff
and said goodbye.
The lady then sat down next to me. Shes
the housekeeper for the Priest at Walsingham,
and was waiting for the 12:15 bus to go there.
I used the opportunity to ask her about a Shrine
to the Lady of Walsingham. Some nun saw a vision
there in 1050 or so, but she said there had
been a Shrine to the Blessed Mother there for
a long time before that. I smiled and thought
to myself, another Sacred Place of the
Goddess hijacked by the Christians!
Just then a car pulled up, and a man leaned
out and said, Get in, well drive
you to Kings Lynn. These were the two
people who had stopped at the bench earlier!
I sort of stammered I couldnt afford much,
and he said, Who asked for money? Its
a nice day. We always take a drive on Saturdays,
and it might as well be to Lynn.
I accepted. When the Goddess gives, you take.
They were such kind people. My first impression
had been so wrong (there's a lesson there!)They
took me right to the station, and I was there
by 1pm, so I was ahead of the game.
I thanked them, and promised to do something
very good for someone to pass this kindness
on. I have a very large debt to the Universe
for this one! Now, every time I read this, I
will remind myself to thank them and send good
thoughts their way. MAY THEY HAVE BRIGHT BLESSINGS!
